Annual Moorings

Our mooring field lies to the north of both Weir Quay Sailing Club's (WQSC) and Weir Quay Boatyard's mooring fields and offers exceptionally sheltered mooring. However, mooring holders should be aware that flows in this part of the river Tamar can be considerable when spring tides coincide with prolonged periods of heavy rain.

Anticipated annual costs, based on the total mooring field (fundus) and other administrative costs, are divided equally amongst mooring holders. As a consequence, when all moorings are let, mooring costs for everyone are kept to a minimum.

Annual moorings for the year April 2026 to March 2027 have now been set at £320.00. This cost is irrespective of the vessel's length or draft.

From time to time, moorings become available and the association operates an informal waiting list which aims to match interested mooring holders with appropriate mooring locations.

Minimum mooring depths range from 1.4 metres to in excess of 4 metres depending on location.

For boat owners wishing to join the waiting list, a refundable deposit of £50.00 is requested. Potential mooring holders joining the waiting list will be given access to the members only section of this website once their deposit has been received.

Mooring holders are responsible for the provision and maintenance of their own moorings. Some of our moorings have been laid by professional, local contractors. Some have constructed and laid their own moorings, whilst most have inherited or purchased their moorings from a previous owner.

All moorings are required to be inspected and serviced annually in line with the terms of our Licence to Lay Moorings granted by the King's Harbour Master for the Dockyard Port of Plymouth. Servicing usually takes place around the spring tides of the spring equinox when the larger tidal variations allow easier access to the moorings laid in deeper water.

Almost all mooring holders have their moorings inspected by a WQSC mooring barge crew. Membership of WQSC allows mooring holders to benefit from an annual inspection and any necessary chain and shackle replacements for an all inclusive fee of £97.00 - providing that the configuration of the mooring aligns with WQSC's specification.

A lower inspection fee applies to non-standard specification moorings such as those with stainless steel risers, but in these cases the mooring holder is responsible for providing their own replacement components.

All mooring holders are responsible for their own mooring buoys and strops.

Mooring holders are encouraged to join the volunteer barge crew inspecting their mooring.
